Re: [RC] re: speed at multidays - TypeF \(Jackie Floyd\)

I wasn't even thinking about LD's when I considering the comment about start times. No, they don't usually start at the same time as the 50's but even though I ride slow, I haven't been passed by that many LDers that I know of. But then, maybe I have and didn't know it! But I do think the majority of the LDers do the same first loop we're doing on the 50's. Otherwise, they'd need an awful lot more vets and volunteers. I can't see that would be very cost effective for ride management.

I've never volunteered or ridden at an endurance ride where riders going different distances all started at the same time.  Is that done in the west?  And are they all doing the same route?  Meaning, if 50 milers do loops A,B,C and D, are the 25 milers doing loops A and B?  That would certainly be a recipe for total congestion at the first vet check.  But even then, riders will usually have spread out a bit for subsequent vet checks.

Plus, riders should never have to wait in line more than a couple of minutes to P&R at any vet check.  If that happens, more volunteers are definitely needed.  Then, even if there's a delay in seeing the vet, you can at least feed the horse while you're waiting in line.

Start times? I'm still kind of wet behind the ears, even though I rode a lot
last year. Do they space start times out where you are? Or am I not
understanding. We all start at the same time on the rides in the Western
region. How about maybe all of us who are coming into the vet check at the
same time are riding at the same speed? Idunno.
