I've never quite understood that argument either. Your ride time is you does not include you hold time. Average_speed X ride_time = distance. If you ride steady at 6 mph it doesn't matter how many vet checks you have your ride time will for 50 miles will be 8:20 if you have one check two checks or three checks. Like Angile if I only had one check, I'd take more time since I would stop to eat on the trail.

I'm going to take this opportunity to clarify something for newbies, since this could be misleading. (This is one of the most common things I have to explain to newbies) your hold times do not count on your ride time, but they *do* count against your allowed 12 hrs. Maybe you feel you keep your momentum up better with fewer holds, but they need to understand that hold times are not lenthening their ride time and fewer holds won't automatically give you a faster ride time (it slows me down since I use my ride time letting my horse eat along the trail)
