[RC] re: Carolyn's 40 years ago - Cindy Collins

Yes, Carolyn, we're 40 years older, fatter, have lost coordination, speed, agility, etc. :) However, the old timers will all tell stories of people kicked in the head by horses or mules and being brain damaged. Almost every family had someone that "wasn't quite right" from a horse accident, so I'm guessing that just because you and yours weren't hurt, doesn't mean much statistically. I knocked out a permanent tooth in a horse wreck as a young teenager. A helmet probably wouldn't have prevented that, but maybe...I've landed on my face several times with a helmet on and the brim plus that inch of helmet sticking out often breaks the fall just enough to protect my face. Anyhow, I don't wear a helmet to prevent "any and all' injuries. I wear it to protect what it's meant to protect, what little brains I have 40 years later :) A few of us on ridecamp actually have to work for a living at a regular job and need all the brain cells we have. I could still work from a wheelchair, but not after a head trauma!
Cindy
