I agree. That was what I meant when I said slower tempo (ie hoofbeats) but faster ground speed. I should have gone that one step farther, and said longer stride... duuuuh.

Maybe someone who rides dressage can answer this more accurately, but
eons ago when I was a lower level dressage rider, I think I learned
that in the various type of trots the cadance remains the same but the
length of the stride changes.  If that was correct, then an extendd
trot would have a longer stride than a working trot.  That longer
stride is also associated with the resulting suspension.

Or my memory is shot and it was just one instructor's opinion.
