So ... sounds like it could be either. ?The cheaper option would be to try a different pad. ?I was using a quilted cotton pad, so I didn't think it was a heat problem.

If the saddle seems to fit well, it could be due to heat. I had a Synergist saddle made for my horse and he would get white hairs in the shape of the panels. I sent it back and had it made a little wider. It still caused white hairs. I was using a gel pad. I switched to a Supracor pad and the white hairs went away and the saddle has been perfect. I guess the gel pad caused too much heat and the Supracor pad breathes.
