RE: [RC] Andalusian/ Arabians/Icelandics - Susan Cushing

I ,too, love my Icelandic, but if I was serious about looking for a horse and did not already have one, I might think again.  He is great at LD's, but we were pretty put out trying to ride the 50's in Vermont.  He will never have the wind capacity of the Arab, they are just plain built wrong for that.  He will also probably never pulse down nearly as quickly either.  I would not trade him and we did 190 miles in the NE division this year (coming back from a broken leg) but it sure would be a whole lot easier on an Arab.  On the other hand, he sure is easier to ride after the initial silly start and I did not have to go around any bridges with him.   He is fun, steady, and can trot right along with a lot of the Arabs, but he does have his limitations.  I certainly don't get to skip anything when it comes to conditioning.  Can't wait to see if he does better next year.

Susan Cushing and Lappi (please don't tell him he won't grow up to be an Arab-he even learned to spook a little this year)
