Re: [RC] Ham Radios - OT? - Beth Walker

At our local rides, the management usually arranges to have REACT (Radio Emergency Associated Communications Teams) present. I don't know if they use ham radios.

They send people to each of the vet checks and base camp. They are a big help in running the ride -- they communicate between the vet checks so each station knows who left the last vet check, and at what time. They can radio back to base camp for additional supplies, assistance, move vet check folks around if one check is short of volunteers, etc.

Their web site is: http://www.reactintl.org/

(Or, contact Terry Woolley-Howe. She can probably put you in touch with them.)

Hi,
I am wondering if any of you use ham radios either for managing rides or personally for emergencies or in remote areas. I am just wondering if learning & using ham radio would be a useful investment for communication at rides. I'm pretty sure most people use cell phones or walkie talkies, but just thought I'd check.
Thanks,
Jeanie
