RE: [RC] Ham Radios - OT? - Jim Holland

This is a good place. In the SE, Land Between the Lakes rides uses a HAM
Radio Club...and so does Old Dominion, I believe. Many have mobile repeater
capabilities.

My hubbie and I have Tech licenses (no Morse Code knowledge necessary).? We
have had our licenses for over 10 years.? At some of the rides we go to, a
local club comes in and brings a repeater and has been very helpful.?
However, without a repeater in our very hilly/mountainous area, they are
almost useless.? Depends on terrain.?

The test is easy to study for.? We were given a disc with hundreds of
questions as practice and had a book, too.? Now, all the info is probably
on-line.

Hi,
I am wondering if any of you use ham radios either for managing rides or
personally for emergencies or in remote areas.? I am just wondering?if
learning & using ham radio?would be a useful investment for communication at
rides.??I'm pretty sure most?people use cell phones or walkie talkies, but
just thought I'd check.
Thanks,
Jeanie
