Re: [RC] Rule Change - Joe Long

Nope, sure wouldn’t want to use the fact that “international uses it” as “the” reason to throw it out any good & needed rule, just don’t want to include that fact as justification to make the rule change. If indeed we need the change, in some form or other, to save horses’ lives, we should be able to justify the change without considering international competition rules.

Good point. Whether International does such-and-such, or "most other countries" do such-and-such, is never a reason for us to do such-and-such. This is not to say that we can't learn from others, but learning means adopting something pioneered somewhere else on its merits, not just because it's done somewhere else.

In the political arena, I don't know how often I've heard some proponent of some government program say "The U.S. is the only industrialized country in the world that doesn't [do such-and-such]." And usually my reaction is "Gee, I'm sure glad I live in the U.S. where the government doesn't do that." ;^>

After reading some recent posts about how the Australians do endurance, with all of their restrictions, I'm sure glad I ride under the AERC!!!!
