Re: [RC] seeking childs western saddle - Kathleen

We just bought this same saddle at horse.com (Country Supply) for $229.  Search for Cordura, because this saddle is real hard to find, and they don't even call it a Big Horn on the website.  It's the actual Big Horn though, with the 10 year warranty on the tree.  The 13" is the same tree as the 14" we bought.  I think if you go down the twelve inch, you go down to a pony size tree.

But I love the saddle, it's awesome!  Super comfy, I even rode in it when I bruised my tailbone.  Luckily I'm small enough that I can share it with the kids.  I did put the buddy stirrups over the horn for my 8 and 5 year old to use it.  My 12" leather saddle was way to small for our stocky mustang mare!

Oh, I also bought the neoprene pad and cinch that the kids can just rinse off to clean.

HTH,
Kathleen

Sueded seats help the child to stay on too. We bought a 14?Big Horn cordura with sueded seat when our youngest was 6 yrs old. New price was $300, included girth & bridle too, and it fit all of our horses as well as our rotund POA. We had to shorten the stirrups all the way as well as turn them upside down for her toes to touch, but that?s all that was needed along with the suede seat. Probably would have made more sense to build up the stirrups, but we did what our neighbor/horse trainer showed us to do and it worked. Tara hardly ever slipped out of the saddle, until she was older & getting braver & trying new things with the POA.

Hello out there,

We have a 5 yr old grand daughter who recently fell off her horse (it = was an English saddle), so we are now hunting for a 12" western child,s = saddle (with a horn she can hang on to!)

that will fit a quarter horse.

Does anyone out there have one for sale?

  Thanks!
