[RC] Cool up and coming gelding - Marcia NelsonHi
all,
I am working with a
4 yr old Arab gelding that has a lot of potential for Endurance. He is flashy
looking, short coupled, tall, a grey, athletic and sound. He is too short
coupled to do the type of show stuff his owner intended him to do and she asked
me to work with him for a month to see if I thought he would suitable to do
endurance.
He has to be trained
about trail as he's still a rookie under saddle. He shows all kinds of signs of
being a great horse. I like his mind. He likes to help out and put his own nose
in the halter and bridle. When turned out in a my new arena he wasn't the type
to weave at the top of the arena and want to be with all the horses. He ran
all around and investigated everything he could find. He watched all the
construction going on without getting wigged out. His turns on his hind end were
effortless and he was switching leads smooth as can be as he ran around at
liberty.  He likes to play and when I would run backwards and encourage him
to come in, he'd trot right up to me with enthusiasm. He is smart and learns
things very fast.
I'm doing a complete
restart with him under saddle to close the gaps in any places I find to build
confidence and independence and a good relationship with his rider. He is now
totally aware that it is me on his back and he turns right around and tries to
communicate things. He's going to make someone a very nice horse.

The owner paid
some pretty significant bucks for him and he has shown and won in halter
classes, but once under saddle, he wasn't happy doing what they wanted him to
do, thus he came to me and I can see that this boy could probably go the
distance and do good things and be someone's really great partner. He comes from
a big Arabian, Gypsy Cob and Miniature Horse Show Barn in the Santa Ynez
Valley.
Email me if anyone
is interested in a really cool horse that could be the next up and coming
Endurance and Tevis horse. I could take some pics and send them along and I'd
have to get his breeding info from the owner.
