My little car, a Mazda Protege, gets 34-35 miles/gallon consistently (that's 
combining intown and highway) and only cost me $2,000.  Runs like a dream 
and only have to change the oil in it on a regular basis.  This little car 
gets ran around a lot too, I usually drive about 50-60 miles/day with 
commuting, commuting for the nags, and running errands. It may not be the 
newest car out there, but I like it and it's totally reliable, starting in 
-30 degree weather without a block heater every time for the last 3 winters, 
and great A/C.  I really need to get a block heater though, (much easier on 
the car).
