[RC] de-lurking newbie - Ed Kilpatrick

karen,  welcome aboard!  you will find lots of info here for sure.
now, about your horse.  you describe him very well.   interesting to me is that he will "do anything for a peppermint".    now, see if you can get him to do anything, for no peppermints!   :-)

best thing for those dadgum big ole arab spooks, teach him lateral flexion/one rein stops to stop and relax when things go bad or just to do for the heck of it.  get him soft, supple and relaxed.   use this technique a lot and consistently. get him out on the trails to experience everything you can find.   i hate that you hit the dirt so many times with him.   a lot of my dressage friends hit the dirt a lot.  i would hate to think there is a pattern here.  :-)  i ride more like a pony express rider.  it doesnt look all that great, but i have a knack for staying in the saddle. try to keep your butt in the saddle, and a leg on either side.  keep a line of sight between his ears, where they go, you should follow.

you dont need to start with natrc, but you certainly may.   i really enjoy their rides.  you can start with aerc rides if you want, and you can start with 50s if you want.  heck, he is seven years old.   have fun!          cowboy ed
