Re: [RC] Racing - M. Paul Latiolais

It can be 7th or 8th, if the rider is heavy enough.

Sorry, I know I have (re-) opened yet another can of worms.

I would not disagree with what Jon said. I would just point out that what he said holds for 50's as well. It is possible to race on 50's as much as on 25's. AND the top 5 are the BC contenders. The horse has to be better fit to start with, but it is still a much shorter distance by "endurance" standards.

Oh I agree that the R is for Ride, but then lets remember ?the E stands for Endurance, and that Endurance, by definition is 50 or more miles. ?By name the mission of the AERC is Riding Endurance.

Of all the rides I have been two in the past 2 years I have not seen an LD BC given to a horse that did NOT finish in the top-5. Why? ?Because 25% of the BC score, using the AERC cards is time. ?Distance divided by time is? ?Speed . ?You simply can not do well consistently in BC at LD distances if you are not placing top 5, probably top 3 in reality. ?Therefore, if someone truely wants to pursue a Regional LD BC Championship, and that is the stated goal, they must be concerned about speed at every ride to score the BC points to win this award. ?Yes the horse has to be well ridden. ?Yes it has to be fit. ?BUT, NO it can't be 7th or 8th ?place.
