Re: [RC] NO trails in So. Calif and LOTS of rain!!! - Bette Lamore

Hi all
I imagine you all saw the rescue of the woman whose car went into a raging river in San Luis Obispo? Well that raging river used to be our pasture until we moved from that ranch almost two years ago. We moved our horses from the pasture at midnight 4 or 5 years ago there as the rain just kept coming --- and the next morning when we went down to feed, we saw the white water river flowing where our pasture had been. I was sooo blessed to have a husband who went down in the middle of the night in the pouring rain because of a foreboding feeling. We had NO idea our pasture was in the 50 year flood zone and this was our year! That was enough close call for me and I am sooo thankful that we moved to higher ground or that would have been me trying to get to the other pasture.
Hope we continue to get a little more rain and that it is spread out a little -- we still need to catch up from our four year drought. Perhaps hay can drop then from the $10+/bale price it is now-- and that is for alfalfa-- forage and grass is far more expensive. Fortunately I'm getting a tittle grass now to supplement as I hate feeding straight alfalfa but who can afford more?
Bette
PS The doctor on TV who was "Pantsed" during his rescue is also a local and my friend's eye doctor-- needless to say, business has picked up :-)

Some of you maybe saw the rescue of a family from a raging stream with a two month old baby...they tried to cross the rapids in a raft, the baby fell in, they saved the baby. Well that is about 3 miles from here, and usually that stream is a mosquito puddle.
