Re: [RC] to shoe or not... - LAWRENCEC BENNASCONI

 well, here's my $.02.
I believe some horses can not go barefoot, and some can. I have been fortunate, I have not owned a horse that required shoes every time. I put them on my gelding once when he was going through a weird growing stage and his heels became slightly contracted.  8 weeks and one pair of shoes, and he has been barefoot ever since. We train on hard/ rocky ground and I have had no problems. My Morgan mare just completed Leatherwood barefoot!
However, I do own a pair of easy boots for each horse that I have, and if I am going to be riding on gravel, or pavement, I use them. Otherwise, they are barefoot 24/7. My horses are not front runners, if I was picking up the pace, then I would step back and re evaluate my decision to leave them barefoot, until them, I will leave them barefoot as long as it works for them.

Yeah, it is amazing isn't it! It's a good idea to reread your posts if you
don't like defensive reactions, because if someone takes it wrong you are
certain to hear about it.

It's too bad that you feel I over reacted, but someone asked a question, I
answered it, and you came back with the statement "Oh geezzz, is it really
time to go THERE again?"  that had enough attitude stuck in there to trigger
a response.

There are hundreds of posts on metabolics, conditioning, electrolytes,
saddles, feeding alfalfa etc etc etc... ***Many*** of them are reruns
because, like it or not, RideCamp is a forum for discussing these topics ad
nausium. Barefoot IS going to continue to be a popular topic because more of
us are successfully doing it, and others want to learn about it.

Like I said earlier, it you don't want to read it? Hit the delete key!
