Re: [RC] dummy question re: electrocution from tank heater - Sisu West Ranch

"... I do have GFCI in my house
in the breaker box and I think it's also in the outlet at my house (an
outdoor outlet on my porch). ..."

Any one circuit should have only one GFCI. Yes, a GFCI protects all outlets down stream of it. You can check easily. One way is to go to the GFCI and push the "test" button. The GFCI will trip. Then go and plug something (a radio or light or whatever) in where the heater is plugged in. If their is no power there (and there was before) that outlet is protected. You can also purchase gizmos which when plugged into an outlet verify that the outlet is properly wired, and test the GFCI protection.

I am not a fan of strings of extension cords. There are too many things that can compromise them (rodents, dogs, cats, kids, etc.).

I had a technician years ago who came in one morning all excited. It turned out that he had to do a plumbing project he had put off for years. He had found out that his wife, out of patience, had hired a plumber to come the next day. Sometimes people need a real incentive.
