Re: [RC] [RC] Why by from the killers? - Deanna GermanI bet you'll find a mixed bag, Truman. I've learned that when I want a performance animal, whether dog or horse, it's best for me to look for the best breeder and purchase a prospect from them because a.) I want to support good breeding and b.) I want a good animal that has been bred for the whole package: conformation, health, temperament and ability. (I've seen too many beautiful physical specimens that have other problems.) An animal is worth what an animal is worth -- and when the price is right for value received, I'll happily pay that. I've passed over plenty with some market driven high price tag and some that had too many strings attached (mostly breed back clauses). It takes time, but I think it's worth it for a performance animal. Now, if I just need/want/have the space for a companion animal or a buddy horse, I'll go to rescues/shelters/auctions. And the animal will get a very happy home. :-) Deanna Truman wrote: Works of wisdom to give us pause to think. Another thing to ponder is, "are endurance riders in general more prone to get a "pound dog" that spend big bucks to a breeder or worse a puppy mill?" =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
