I've heard of fuel made from soybeans.
Think how using such a fuel would help farmers. I'd so much rather
see our money go to American soybean farmers than middle east oil-rich
countries.
You want a real "alternative" to fossil fuels?
Biodiesel. It is made from vegetable oil. You can make it from
used fry grease for that matter. No modifications needed for diesel
engines. No foriegn oil. No waiting 10-20 years for reasonable
production. It burns cleaner and is better for the engine. Good
for the air, good for the car, good for the country. I'm sold.
I knew nothing about this stuff until I recently bought an
older diesel truck. Unfortunetly it is not popular here in California
(maybe because nobody has heard of it!). Here are a couple of
links:
If you drive a diesel start asking for it. I plan on
going out of my way to use the only retailer in San Diego that sells a
biodiesel product (20% formulation). And everytime I fill up I plan to
nag for the 100% formula.
