The Question that I asked was who "is us". The facts that you have presented on the costs that maybe associated with the $1.43 per month still do not address the other impacts that we/I have experienced in the Cool area. Specifically the Knickerbocker Area. When I arrived in Cool some 16-17 years ago most of this area was closed off to the public because the lands were being used for grazing leases. Most of the ranchers objected to the equestrian community using these same public lands. The other additional expenses that you purport to be fee's are normal maintenance items that anyone has to spend on any pasture lands. At the Cool, Knickerbocker location, enforcement of the supposed rules was not being performed. It came to a head, when the ranchers stated bringing in backhoes to dig and enlarge new water sources, bring in addition feed, place salt blocks in and adjacent to watercourses, over grazing and the importation of other cattle's babies that feed for free as best as I can remember 10 cows (paid for), 100 babies (free). I held a meeting with all concerned parties, BOR, State Parks, and the ranchers and produced the laws on these issues it was the concuss after this meeting that is responsible for the opening of the whole of the Knickerbocker Area for equestrian use which included the New enlarged staging area with Porta Potty's. And yes I did threaten to File for a "Writ of Mandate" to get the Authorities to enforce these conditions and other portions of the law that were not being enforced at this location. Yes, you'd gladly pay the $1.43 per month (actually, last I checked, which was some time ago, it was well over twice that on BLM land in this area)--but would you gladly pay the fencing costs, the spring maintenance costs, the riparian projects, and all the other stuff that the ranchers pay ON TOP of that to graze their cattle on public lands for perhaps 3-4 months of the year? When you break down THOSE costs that the rancher ALSO pays (which BTW "subsidize" YOUR use of the public lands by improving wildlife habitat, etc.) the REAL cost to the rancher is on the order of $12 or so per AUM. That is also the going rate for private pasture land--I am paid $12 for dries and $14 for pairs when the neighbor leases pasture from me--where *I* pay the fencing costs and *I* maintain a water source, etc., etc. Please get your facts straight.
