[RC] Renegades vs EasyBoots - Becky H

OK, I said Renegades yesterday and I will elaborate more here today.  I just bought the same size as I used in EasyBoots.  No problem at all.  I used EasyBoots for thousands of miles.  Got lots of rubs.  Used everything to prevent them.  This was on 3 different horses so not horse specific.  I still have a case of vet wrap in the trailer from  using easyboots.

There is a learning curve with Renegades but is far shorter than with EasyBoots

My latest success was at the recent Death Valley Encounter (DVE).  I have been there every year since 1997 except for 2005.  Have now completed all 4 days 5 times on 3 different horses.  This year was the easiest boot wise.  No prep to foot/leg except to pick out and use a brush to get dirt/sand off (same as easyboots)  Apply boot.  Used a strap to position captivator. Fasten velcro (push it together real hard and use 2 "O" rings per strap.  Repeat 3 more times.

I did not loose one boot.  I did not replace/readjust one velcro strap. My horse did not have one spot of pink showing of even a pre rub situation. We had over 32 hours of ride time in 4 days. Now that's a test.

The only thing I have learned is to start with DRY velcro, smush it together when fastening really well, and leave it alone.  Be a fanatic about cleaning out the straps every night (multiday) and make sure they are dry or have a second set of straps.  No tools necessary to change straps.  Simple easy steps.  I should start a blog!

Oh and I am going to have to start to replace my first set of Renegades  after a year.  Honestly about the same wear as EasyBoots except for over shoes which did wear out faster.

Looks like RideCamp has replace "Barefoot vs Shod" with "Boot Wars" this year.

Use what works for you.  It is only as hard as you make it.

Subject: [RC] which boot?

Hi all,

Which boot do you prefer and why? I am trying to decide between Easycares Easyboot "Bare", or the "Edge".( I like the looks of the "Edge" the best.) Which of the two are easiest to apply? Anyone had trouble with the hardware on either of these not staying on or put?I do long distance trail for now. Horses are barefoot. I have tried Epics and don't like the cables. They are always fraying on me. Also the hardware doesn't stay riveted into the boot for long. Tried the "Glove". They come off. ( Yes, they were fitted right. I did the measurements correctly too.Tried several different sizes )The Cavallo Boots are so far the best and easiest to apply and they stay on great, but they rub the horses heel bulbs and the gaiters made for them only last 1-2 rides. ( I am going to try the gaiters made for the Boa Boot on the Cavallo Boots next time -for the one horse I have )I don't even want to try the Renegades.( I don't want the headache that I have read about with the fitting of them - I want to ride...now instead of later ) Would appreciate your input between the two! ( Edge- Bare )Thanks!
