Re: [RC] towing w/automatic (P.S.) - Elizabeth Walker

That's actually a pretty good point. I came close to having a dislocated shoulder when Caisson did a quick reverse. If I had had to drive the truck I have now, I think I would have been in trouble. (Of course, getting *back* to the truck wouldn't have been great. I was lucky that it slipped back in the socket.)

P.S. BTW, I LOVE driving a stick shift, but after both my husband and I had times when we had broken legs or feet and/or had broken arms or collar bones, we decided to buy an automatic towing vehicle so we could at least get to the hospital after the wreck :) Cindy

My automatic and most of the towing packages give you the ability to take it in an out of overdrive and to drop gears. Coming off the BigHorns, as an example, I take it out of overdrive, then drop it into 2nd, then 1st gear. These are on the gear dash display.

I am interested in what "after market trailer brakes our gurus might recommend." Cindy

Re: [RC] trailer brakes - Elizabeth Walker
Same here. Manual transmission, with over/under drive. I normally don't have to use my brakes much, if at all, going down a hill, as I just drop it into third. I also tend to use the gears to slow down coming in to a light.

I am thinking about getting another truck, though. Mine is a 1986, and showing its age. Do they even make them with manual transmissions anymore? I'd be interested in hearing from folks that trailer with automatic transmissions. Like Carla said - what do you do going down a long hill to avoid riding the brakes?
