Re: [RC] Helmet ? - Born Country

I, too, am part of a Sheriff's posse on a volunteer basis. For quite a while,
helmets were not allowed to be part of our uniform. We patrolled parking lots
during high-school football games, parades, other events throughout the year.
Several of us complained long enough and loud enough that the Sheriff's office
relented and ordered those of us who wanted them, helmets. We are allowed to
use our helmets at any event EXCEPT parades. All posse members have to wear
cowboy hats for the parades, probably the most dangerous event we do and the
most public. Go figure.

remote-controlled cars come zipping by

Different kind of "posse". Truman's are paid cops doing real work on horses on
a daily basis. Dyane's friend's posse is a volunteer group that may do Search
& Rescue or just parades or hold benefits for the local Sheriff's department,
etc.

That's interesting. The first time I saw a mounted policeman it was in
Baltimore in the '70's- on the streets in traffic at rush hour none the less.
His helmet which was more like a motorcycle cop would wear was part of his
uniform. I've seen a few other equine police patrols and the helmet is part
of their uniform.

A friend of mine volunteers for a big city posse. They do parades and other
events and ride a lot on pavement, but they are considered "out of uniform"
if they put on a helmet. Protecting the public, but not themselves.
