[RC] Proof through Research - Bruce Weary DC

You make good points, Joe. It's a sticky wicket. Even some of the changes we have made that you mentioned, for example vet
gates, evolved through what is strictly a very unscientific method. We are still very much an informal "try it and see" kind of sport.
I would think that a hard core research technician would run screaming through basecamp exclaiming, "|This is a horribly compromised
place to conduct scientific research! Everyone is riding in different saddles, feeding differently, carrying different weights, trailering
different distances, using different electrolyting and conditioning protocols! We can't make ANY sound conclusions from
anything being tested here today!"
I am being facetious, of course, but we have evolved anyway, and not from strict adherence to sterile clinical and laboratory research.
We really probably do more "hillbilly science" in endurance than anything else. But one thing we agree on. We all want to do better by our
horses, and many people are very creative in finding new ways of looking at things, and are not afraid to question the status quo.
I think those are good things. Bruce
