Re: [RC] Windpuffs - same as sticking up? - Angie Fura

I always used the phrase "stocking up" to describe the conditon where a horse's lower legs seem swollen.  Are they the same as wind puffs?  It was explained to me that this was caused by lymphatic tissue settling in the lower leg.  It goes away once the horse starts moving.  I'm not sure if this is true or not.

My horse stocks up.  He does this when he is confined to a stall or hi-tie overnight.  It happens on all 4 legs, but mostly the back legs.  He is not lame and it goes away after walking around for a few minutes.

I never considered taking him to the vet for this condition because I've seen lots of school horses that did this and worked out of it the same way.   Do I need to dust off the Mastercard?  Its been about two weeks since I've seen the vet so I know I'm due for another visit :)
