Just to complicate things, it turns out that yucca is allowed by USEF - I was curious, so I sent off an email. Their reply is below. While AERC doesn't need to operate under USEF rules, what about endurance riders in FEI rides? Or is that yet another set of drug rules?

Dear Elizabeth,

Yucca is permitted under the Therapeutic Substance Provision of the USEF Drugs and Medications Rule.

But AERC and FEI endurance do not operate under the Therapeutic Substance Provision of USEF:

DIFFERENT RULES FOR DIFFERENT GROUPS
Most breeds and disciplines that compete under USEF Rules are subject
to the Therapeutic Substance Provisions (GR410-412). The Endurance Discipline
is subject to the No Foreign Substance Provisions (GR 409). Other
breeds and disciplines may choose this option, if they wish.
