Hi D'Arcy,

Curious where you live that you can get hay this time of year?....I hoping what I bought last June will last me...usually

in Northern California, we start getting new crop hay in around June/July..anything bought right now would be last years

hay, which I would sort of hate to pay full price for....

 

In any case, buying hay is ALWAYS stressful....getting good stuff delivered...and it sure is a good feeling to have it

stacked in the barn!

Yeppers, my 25 ton delivery next week will be an all time high of $6,400.00.  Last year this time - $4,800.00.  And if that isn't enough of a shock...this time four years ago... $2700.00.  Now the powers that be would have us believe it's the 'oil crisis' when, in fact, it is a hay SHORTAGE.  A shortage I might add created by the hay growers to lessen supply and drive the cost UP!  Every supplier I contacted last week said the same thing.  $249 to $300 a ton plus the retriever to off load the hay (usually runs $350.00).  Oh, and the best part of the conversation was, "IF I can find you hay!" 

 

Isn't the SPORT grand?  Well, it's a relative isn't it?  If the rewards out weigh the cost.  And I guess that is what the message really is.  If you enjoy the sport, regardless of the ever increasing costs, one does what one can to support the sport - in general.
