Re: [RC] Grays and that damn 'skin cancer' - D'Arcy Demianoff-Thompson

Yes, it is common practice by the vets in Florida to use Cimetidine to address melanmas as well as pigmentation issues.  I'll check the dose in the morning.  I still have some left from Terre Joy, who passed away this year, who came from FL, was on Cimetidine for pigmentation issues.  It worked!  So, I had a mare with a melanoma on her side.  It shrunk it and almost irridicated it.

Thanks for the tip. Apparently, and mind you my malpractice coverage does not include medical or pharmaceutical information, cimetidine is also know as
tagamet hb. Tagamet hb is an over the counter heartburn treatment.
Do I put it in me, on me, on the horse or in the horse?\

I have a friend who has an older grey horse ("grey" for horses---"gray" for everything else--grin) - with melanomas.  Her vet has recommended daily cimetidine (I don't recall the dose) - which she says appears to be shrinking the tumors.  Y'all might look into that.
