Re: [RC] Wussification of endurance - Truman Prevatt

Dawn,

In '96 I ran the Florida Endurance Classic and we could easily do and did a single loop 50. Dee Meyer took it over and ran a single 50 mile loop. In '97 I ran a the first Goethe ride - it was a 2 day 100. Both days had a different 50 mile single loop!

There was another ride in FL that ran a single 50 mile loop. That trail is still available but the RM decided to go away from the single 50 mile loop. The same for another long time 100 in the SE. In reality.

Granted it takes more work on the part of the RM but it can be done. All the trail I ran a 50 mile loop on is still available.

I think part of the issue is trail availability. In many parts of the East, and considering Texas the East, since it's something like 95% (+ or - a couple %) private land, one simply can't MAKE a single 50 mile loop. If one wants to have a ride at all, one has to have a bunch of short loops coming back to camp. The Duck could never have his rides in CT region or SE region. His type of rides are possible because of where he is as much as his philosophy.
