Re: [RC] Hoof Wizard...What do you guys think?? - Don Huston

Hello Steven,

Thanks for the link, I like it. The name is hokey "wizard"....right, gauge or tool maybe and the price is high but I'm going to buy one. I'm a land surveyor and I have a good eye for straight and parallel and perpendicular etc but hooves are curved and I cannot see both sides at the same time for comparison. I look at this side, that side, front, back. Is it unbalanced because one side is too high or is the other too low? If I take the high side down how does that hoof length now compare to the other? On and on. I will still use the sole plane first and look at all the sides then put the Hoof Wizard on as one more check to see if I missed something. It will be just one more tool in my quest for keeping my horse's hooves balanced.

Years ago, when I had to pay a farrier, I would look at the finished hooves and sometimes think one looked off but ignored it because I did not really know what to look for. I wish I had had a Hoof Wizard back then. I think it would be a good tool for those owners who question the balance on their horse's hooves. IMHO the best time to use this wizard would be before the farrier gets there. Take your time, use the tool per the instructions, then I would use a permanent paint pen so the line stays there until the farrier is finished and you both have seen the before and after results.

Your farrier might even like the tool because it places a permanent reference line on the hoof thereby saving the time previously used to check and recheck the balance. Possibly a good definition of "simplified" is when you can do the same job a little faster. ;-)

I got this e-mail about this product called the 'Hoof Wizard' the other day, and since we always seem to be talking about feet and shoeing I thought I would ask what ya'll thought of this???? http://www.hoofwizard.com/index.php

I don't know it just seems so oversimplified....

Thanks,
