Re: [RC] rider sanctioning/litigation against ride vet - Beth Walker

Reading between the lines, what I get from Susan's description is that the rider did not have a legitimate reason for suing; i.e., there was no malpractice involved, etc. ?All the RMs in the region got together and decided that they didn't need any more grief from this rider. ?(Leading me to assume that this rider had caused trouble before...) ?That is a perfectly acceptable level of review IMO. ? I do think that having some level of review is important, however.

I also don't think that riders should be barred from rides just because they bring suit, no matter how legitimate the reason. ?Mind you, I can't really imagine such a situation -- I've always been very impressed with the vets at the rides I've attended, and most reasonable people understand that "s--t happens". ?However, just bringing a suit should not be grounds for refusing entry. ?Bringing a suit just to cause trouble, especially if it goes along with other problems caused by the same rider.

In this case (or at least a case just like it), the RMs in the region sent the rider a letter telling him he isn't welcomed at their rides. For what it's worth, he's not welcomed at my ride either!

?
If riders start suing vets, vets will stop vetting rides and RM will stop managing rides.? Where will AERC be then??
?
I don't know...but good luck with that.

Then, does a ride manager have the ‘right to refuse entry’ to the rider who brought the litigation? Does the ride manager who is ‘employing’ this ride vet allowed to refuse entry to this rider in the future? If the answer is ‘no’ the vet could very well walk out, leaving no vet for the entire ride.
