Re: [RC] LD's and awards etc. - Elizabeth Walker

Thanks, Cindy --
It is the "LD is just training attitude" that I disagree with, since AERC has an entire section of their rule book devoted to the rules for an LD *competition*. I think that rule L7 contributes to the problem, as it allows an LD to be run without recording ride time and placing. Either an LD is a recognized competitive division, or it isn't. If it is (and the AERC rules do define it as such), then it is not "training". To say that it is is to demean the efforts of the people participating in the event.

I have never tried to Top 10, in either LD or in a 50, but I know there are people who do go for the LD Top 10 / BC. They wouldn't do it if it didn't mean something to them. Why take that away, and disparage their effort by calling it "training"? The problem of overridden horses (at *any* distance) is a separate issue from whether the LD distance is considered a competition.

I have always been treated well and have never felt I was looked down on

training/conditoning ride and not a competition to be raced.
