Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] The LD thing - Maryben Stover

Yeah, but don't forget that the 50's get bungee cords and no banquet too.....lol

In riding LD's the last few years, I've noticed that there are a bunch on non-Arab horses riding LD's and just having a good time.  I don't think they have any intention of moving up to 50's, and just participate in the local rides.  I think they actually have more fun than those who are "enduring" out there!

So I think that the percentage of LD riders whining about recognition is actually a pretty small number.  I bet the majority of the LD riders don't even know what Ridecamp is, and couldn't care less about recognition.

LD ride attendance seems to be holding pretty well around here (even with bungee cords as the prize and no awards banquet) with very few idiot riders so it appears that lack of awards is not a deterrent to riding LD's!

I think what is really interesting in reading ride results over the years of LD rides is the number of asterisks * after horses' names.  If I am not mistaken, I believe this indicates that these horses do not have an AERC # and are not entered in a mileage program.    One year at our ride, 33% of horses in the 25 miler did not have an AERC #.    Does this mean that their owners/riders do not care about record keeping for their individual horses?  Are they "trying out" the horse 1st to see if they wish to invest another few $ ?   If one does not wish to have their horse's mileage recorded (and support AERC by paying a small fee)  who is being treated as a second class citizen?  In my opinion, it's the horse - yet this period "wave" of "I want more recognition/awards" occurs.

AERC had it right with the intent of Limited Distance years ago.
