Actually, when we put on our Land of The Neversweat Ride the LD did not have to place in the top 10 in order to receive Best Condition. All of the Ld horses were looked at and also their vet cards. Hence, the Best Condition was decided. Ginger

Actually ALL LD rides/riders only receive miles. There are NO points for LD, period. All of the National and Regional LD awards are based on mileage only. The only award for LD where placings matter, is the rides that offer an AERC LD BC, in which case you need to finish in the top 10. So saying you would not go to a LD ride where your were only awarded mileage, is like saying you will never ride LD again. In the example given, all riders received their credit for the miles, which is all any of the LD rides will give. No points were not awarded and/or lost.

I believe L7 is supposed (somebody jump in and correct me if I'm wrong) to be saying that points are not recorded for LD, as they are for 50's and 100's. The wording is pretty confusing, though, and could stand some rewriting.
Personally, I would not want to go to a ride where I was planning on riding LD, and would not get any recognition other than mileage. Some folks may consider that distance as "just training", but for a (growing) portion of the AERC membership - people are getting older, and some folks just aren't up to riding 50 miles, but still want to be part of the AERC community. I see no reason to attend a ride where I would automatically be classified as "second class".
