Re: [RC] [RC] From Cat to dogs charging - Mary Ann Spencer

People who have to deal with dogs while doing their jobs have used some sort of 'squirt' device' and put water and sudsy ammonia in it and used that to spray at the dog. (Now all those animal rights folks don't need to all out of whack. This is only an irritant but sure makes the point.) It may take a few times for the dog to get the message. IT COULD TAKE MONTHS TO GET YOUR HORSE REPAIRED!!! Got chased by a &*() pit bull one time and the &*() animal chased up for way over a mile.... we had to GALLOP to get out of reach. The &*() dog lunged, UNPROVOKED, at my horses chest. I KICKED her and off we went. We out ran the *() dog and NEVER rode down that road again. That was in NC.

I have not had any other experience like that. I will slow down my horse and slowly walk by the area. I have also turned the horse around to face the dog and/or chase the dog back to his house. gotta be careful not to enter the dogs yard.

If I have to ride past a dog that I think is dangerous, I will report the animal. Almost all places have laws about dangerous animals.

Perhaps some dog psychologists could elaborate about the fact that the dog thinks it is chasing away a huge bad thing????????????????
