[RC] ? To The Feed experts - Tx Trigger

My horses are on a dry lot or sand lot and have no grass except when we
haul out to ride we hand graze them for about 30 min. I am have a hard time
keeping weight off both horses. I am feeding them free choice coastal round
bale plus 4 pounds (2 am 2 pm) of a 12% compele sweet feed and each get one
flake of Alafia a day.<<<

Since they are on a dry lot, free feeding on the round bale might just be to
much hay for them. Either the work and exercise load would need to increase,
of the feed cut back. As mentioned, they probably do not need grain at all.
(but it makes us humans feel better to give them something) But I'd also
consider that they are just plain eating too much for the work load...or
lack of work load.

I have fed round bales by placing them locked up in the barn, and then
chunking off enough for a feeding with a pitchfork. If they clean it all up
between feedings, then I can consider feeding more, and if they leave any,
I can cut back. THEN, I adjust as to the weight of the horses.
