Re: [RC] suicide race - Diane Trefethen

If you have a point of view on this issue, please back up your opinion or substantiate it. Your comment about Terry Banister sounds personal.

Your response to the two comments "sounds personal", Micki. You took issue with my unemotionally charged statement and totally overlooked the derogatory and angst-ridden charges in the original post. Why?

The first comment is misleading, inflammatory and insulting. It
1) Portrays by allusion all those who believe that the horse slaughter industry has validity as being in favor of slaughtering horses. The two
concepts are not the same and therefore equating them is misleading.
2) Categorizes certain people as both regressive and imbecilic.
3) Since many individuals here on RC first wrote in opposition to the Horse Protection amendment, predicting that it would worsen the fate for most of those horses that were then being slaughtered for foreign markets, and then wrote to point out that the passage of the amendment had indeed, as predicted, guaranteed increased, not decreased, misery and torture for thousands of horses, it is clear that the implication of the comment is to ascribe barbarianism and idiocy to those Ridecampers.

The second comment states that the poster of the first comment
1) Is naive. If the poster is unaware of the selfishness of people (naive), believed stopping the slaughter would stop the abandonment of horses (naive) or failed utterly to see the consequences of closing down the American slaughter plants without providing an alternative (naive), then that aspersion is valid. NB: "Naive" is neither pejorative nor inflammatory. "Barbarian idiots" is both.

2) Is narrow-minded. Citing again the utter lack of ability to foresee the horrific consequences of the HP amendment is I think ample proof of not having the openness of mind or clarity of thinking to consider all available information, even concepts and solutions with which we disagree, ie, of being narrow-minded.
