RE: [RC] [RC] Heel Bulbs Healing - Ranelle Rubin

April,
Years ago that happened to one of my horses while he was jumping in the trailer. I soaked his heel in a tub of hot water with Epsom salts (as much as would dissolve in the water), palpating it while it soaked. I was amazed at how much pus came out! I did this twice a day for about 4 or 5 days if I remember..I used a black rubber feed tub so it would not be slippery like a regular plastic bucket. I did it at feeding time with a hay bag in front of him so he would stand still.

Today, I would also use Miracle Clay by Dynamite in between..it really pulls stuff out!

I would like some opinions, please. A couple weeks ago an abscess blew out
the heel bulbs on Tanna's hoof. For a week, I had the foot and bulbs wrapped
with Epsom Salt Poultice. After removing the wrapping, I tried Trail Rite
Ointment, but that appeared to make it worse and the last couple days, I've
let it go with a squirt of betadine once or twice a day. Tanna is sound
running in the pasture, but the heel bulbs are tender (when I poke at them)
and look nasty still. I'd like suggestions on how to get this to heal nicely
and quickly (if possible). I think I may be worrying it too much and if I'd
just leave them alone, the spots would heal on their own.
