flat with a good coarse metal file but leave some of
the "+" so the screwdriver will still work to turn the
screws.

Don, after reading (on another chat list) your
wonderful suggestion to file the screw heads flat, I
did just that, and then covered the 'flat' screw heads
with a flexible caulk, and rode an LD. The first half
of the ride was great - not a single ding. Then the
caulk wore off and he was bloody again. So, yep,
fetlock boots PLUS flat screw heads are the next step.
Hopefully he'll eventually carry himself better as he
gets more fit/experienced, and the cuts will be a
thing of the past.
