Re: [RC] [Endurance Tracks] USEF Seeks Candidates for Chef d'Equipefor Endurance - Truman Prevatt

And a person in such a position is expected to produce a winning program, just as a college basketball coach or professional basketball coach is expected to produce a winning program. If such a program is not forthcoming or it is viewed by the USEF that the person selected will not be able to produce a winning program then the contract will be terminated just like in any big time sport - which is most likely what happened last time.

Well, I went back to the Ridecamp archives and found last year's
USEF announcement and the subsequent discussion. If you missed
it like I did, look at:

To read it in chronological order, start at the bottom and work up.
Don't quit before you get to the part about its not actually being
a High Performance Endurance Committee decision, but indeed
a "USEF Management" decision.

I found John Teeter's interjection of a previous USEF press release where
Priesz talks about wanting a permanent "endurance training camp"
(see full text at:
http://www.endurance.net/RideCamp/archives/past/06/25/msg00143.html
) and the fostering of young riders particularly interesting when
compared to the stated goals and activities of the new APEX
organization (A Partnership for Endurance Excellence--
http://www.apex-us.org/index.html).

I am also wrong on Chef d'Equip being just the stage manager, with
no team performance responsibility. The role really *is* like Anthony
Hopkins in "International Velvet." Or even--given what Priesz is saying
about getting corporate sponsorship for endurance--perhaps more
like Gene Hackman in "Downhill Racer."
