My understanding is that the Chef d'Equipe isn't the "team trainer" (i.e., they are not like Anthony Hopkins in "International Velvet.") Rather, they are basically the "road manager," like the guy who handles a rock group's tour--seeing that all the accommodations get booked, and all the equipment is in order, and everything gets packed and shipped, and local help gets hired and manages the roadies.
