Re: [RC] Equitation question - Beth Walker

Thanks to everyone that replied. Jennifer and Ranelle -- thanks for the feedback. It reinforced what I thought, that going 'in frame' on trail was too much, too long, and he needs a looser frame (though not inverted). Glad I'm on the right track there.

The info on the Equus article is also interesting, and it makes a lot of sense. I was already thinking along those lines - Caisson is perfectly happy to go around the arena with his nose down by his knees, but when he is on trail, he really wants his head up. I had been thinking that it had to be something along those lines -- that he just couldn't really see well with his head down. (My last two training rides reinforces that. The first one was on mountain trails, and he would mostly just bob his head down, and then put it back up. The second one was on a nice, wide fire road, and I got some very nice, round canters when I asked him for them. When the trail got technical, he wanted his head out in a more "flat" posture).
