[RC] Speaking of beet pulp... - Alan Kay - sherman

I don’t use Ultium, so don’t know what’s in it. What I’ve read is that you should not feed a “large grain meal” on ride morning. Also, yes, electrolyes the eve before & morning of the ride are appropriate. Some riders feel that the electrolyting should begin Thursday nite for a Saturday ride, others say there’s no need to start that early since it’ll be flushed out if the excess isn’t needed the way it is on ride day.

I have been supplementing soaked beat pulp & Ultium mix starting a few days before a ride and continuing a few days after. I've heard various recommendations on feeding or not feeding such a mix the morning of the ride (we're talking 50 mile rides). I usually mix electrolytes in this mix starting the evening before the ride and feed this ride morning and at the vet checks and at the ride's end. Is there evidence to support or stop this practice? Thanks!
