Re: [RC] [RC] Foot Pain - Barbara McCrary

I had Morton's Neuroma in the past. It caused excruciating pain and burning in my toes. I'm sure it started when I rode Tevis one year with English irons and the wrong footwear. It became so bad, I finally resorted to having a neurectomy. My foot still hurt and burned for about three years afterwards, but since then it's been fine and all I have as a reminder is a small scar and a couple of faintly numb toes.
I have found that wide, thickly padded stirrups and Ariat Performers (hard soles) in combination work well for me.

Is a shoe that is flexible or one that is more rigid better for riding? Wide stirrups give more support. Wouldn't a more rigid shoe do the same?
