[RC] Shoot the horse (was: Spinal Arthritis) - k s swigart

Lisa Douglass said:

Money is so dear, I don't want to be covering up
the problem and not finding out exactly what this
chronic condition actually is.

Discovering the cause of chronic conditions can be extremely expensive,
and as often as not, after getting the diagnosis, the follow on to the
information is "and there is nothing we can do to fix it."

If I had a horse that had a chronic lameness problem and the best guess
from veterinary professionals were spinal arthritis and money were dear,
I doubt that I would spend the money to even get the diagnosis. If the
chronic lameness were not bad enough that the horse could be comfortable
as a pasture ornament, I would retire it as a pasture ornament. If the
horse were sufficiently lame that even this would not be comfortable for
the horse, I would euthanize it.
