Re: [RC] De Elevators - indiancp

think i've told y'all this before but many years ago i bought a beautiful tb gelding at an auction for a friend. took him home and the next day she came to meet and ride her new best friend. she got on and he limped like crazy. did have what looked like an osslet (sp) on that front. we were just sick. turned him out to pasture and he ran and bucked and "whooped and hollered". the next day we saddled him and same poor, lame horse. turned out...WHOOPIE. no signs of lameness. the next day i told her that i was really going to feel bad if it turned out something was really wrong with this horse but we were gonna ride him. started riding in this huge ring we had and he limped and limped...poor thing. kept riding and strange...he started limping on the other front. first one front and then the other for a while but i guess the riding "cured" him. he became sound!! she did dressage, fox hunted and did combined with this horse for years and he never took a lame step with her. he'd ALMOST limped his way into a dog food can as there was a dog food man at that sale.
having told that true story i think anyone whose horse starts limping at a ride is an idiot to argue with the vet and want to continue the ride. the vet should tell them that "okay, we aren't pulling the horse we're pulling you for being an ass!"

When I was a teen, I had a mare...probably Morgan...who learned to fake lameness. Riding her away from home for 1/4 mile, she would limp; turn her back toward home and she immediately went into her fast singlefoot gait and was miraculously restored to soundness.
