RE: [RC] Logbooks - Smith, Dave

I would certainly use one. In fact, I've been looking for a log book
for endurance. When I was hang-gliding, I religiously kept a log of
each and every flight. I learned a lot by periodically going back and
reliving this or that flight.

How many would use a logbook if AERC gave it to you free of charge?

Would you use it if became available from another source?

How many would use it if you had to pay for the logbook?

One could make a logbook - fill it with pages of "ride cards" and fill
in
the data as the rides progress and have a simple page keeping a running
tally of completions, pulls and the reason for the full. If it was
metabolic
list what kind of issue and if treatment was needed. It would be more
like a
report card for your horse but an easy way to keep all the data in one
place.

I for one would be willing to buy a logbook. I think the information
could
only serve to help me learn.

I will say I thank all involved in the Horse Welfare committee, change
is
difficult to make happen in any large group and I believe you all are
doing
the best you can. I think AERC should be interested in keeping or
creating
logbooks for horses, it simply would be the best and easiest way to have
a
record of all the horses performance in this amazing sport over time;
the
span of a career.

Sometimes the best way to create change is for it to grow slowly from
the
ground up rather than waiting for the "government" to make it happen. If
we
all started using logbooks would AERC not see value in the information
created by them in time? If membership took the initiative to make a
change
would AERC follow? Or do we need something to be a rule before we as
membership do anything other than complain?
