I had heard the _expression_ as: "California,
the land of Granola! Those that aren't flakes are fruits or
nuts."
I just thought it was a funny _expression_ and never
read anything more into it. I've heard a lot of jokes about Texans
too. I laugh myself silly every time---and I'm a Texan.
