I have to shorten stirrups for competition because that's when Zephyr can be
counted on to deliver the MONSTER TROT.  He's just a little guy... 14.3h if
he's 8 weeks out from a trim and he's wearing shoes... but he can trot with a
20" overstride.  He's in the air for so long that I have to shorten my stirrups
to get enough hang time.  Some horses make a top-speed trot easy to ride, but
not him.
