Re: [RC] Question for Non-Arab owners re: Pulse rates - Laney Humphrey

It depends on what you mean by "compete." I ride a non-arab and have rarely had trouble meeting a 60 criteria within just a few minutes of coming in. But...I do not ride fast and I do my level best to ride Dino well within his capacity to recover quickly. I live in the dry west which helps. He had more trouble in the more humid midwest when we went back to do Shore to Shore.

I know there are outliers in every breed that have low pulses, but would a 60 or 56 within 30 minutes make it harder for some of the non-Arab breeds to complete? I have a Morab (which hasn't been competed yet) and am curious, since all I've ridden (years ago, now) have been Arabs, and slowly, and had no problems with pulses.
